FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The things people message me about most.

Do I need to know any German to start?

No. A1 starts from the alphabet and pronunciation. If you already know some, start at A2 instead. You can switch levels whenever you like.

Are you affiliated with telc or the Goethe-Institut?

No. This is an independent course that follows their published exam formats so nothing on test day is a surprise. You book and sit the exam with an official centre yourself.

How long does it realistically take to reach B1?

From zero, most people need eight to twelve months at four to five hours a week. Anyone promising B1 in three months is selling you something. The plan adapts to the time you actually have.

Which certificate do I need for a spouse visa?

A1 for the visa itself, from a Goethe-Institut or telc centre recognised by the German mission in your country. The A1 track is built specifically around that exam.

Is the visa and PR information kept up to date?

The guides are reviewed against current rules and dated so you can see when. They are explanations, not legal advice. For a binding answer, speak to the Ausländerbehörde or an immigration lawyer.

Can I learn this alongside a full-time job?

That is who it is built for. A lesson runs about ten minutes and nothing is scheduled, so you work whenever you have the time. Most learners do a stage on the commute and the exercises at the weekend.

Why not just use free YouTube videos?

Use them, mine included. What they cannot give you is order, correction and a record of what you have actually mastered. That is the difference between watching German and learning it.

What happens if I fail the exam?

Retakes are normal, and the second attempt is usually much cheaper. Your result breakdown tells you which skill lost the marks. Go back to those lessons, redo the exercises, and sit it again. Nothing is locked, so you can work on one section without starting over.
